この写真を撮ったところは、
伏見稲荷という神社です。
元は農耕の神様で
その神様の使者が、きつねです。

収穫ときつねは、関係が深そうです。
日本でも収穫期は秋ですが、
昔話などでは、想像上のきつねとして
白いきつねが、よく登場します。

"welcome cat"は、日本でも
とても一般的です。
色々な種類があります。

私は、足が上がっている猫が「歓迎された猫」であると知ったかもしれません。 それはここ、中国の、または、インドネシアの店の入り口でしばしば見られます。また、私は、1つが欲しいと自分で思います。

Is it because of the color of the fox represent the autumn. The autumn is also the time of harvest?

I could have known the cat with a paw up was a "welcome cat". It is often seen here at the entrance of Chinese or Indonesian shops. I would like to have one myself too.

リスでも、猫でもありません。
きつねです。

”a cat holding a paw in the air”
というのは、”招き猫”のことかな？
